چکیده

High risk of lung cancer among chromate workers have been reported by many investigators, but it has been limited to the refining process. A recent report demonstrated that there was a significantly high number of deaths from cancer among chromium platers. In this report, a cohort study was carried out on platers in Tokyo. Among 952 chromium platers who were followed up from April 1, 1970 to September 30, 1976, 21 deaths were observed, but there was no case of lung cancer. In spite of the small size of the population investigated, it was discussed that there was not so much risk of cancer, particularly lung cancer, among chromium platers.

[Worldwide cancer mortality among chromium platers]. [J UOEH. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI

The elevated risk of lung cancer among chromate-producing workers has been confirmed by many epidemiological studies. Although chromium has been most used in the chromium plating industry and many platers are employed in small-scale factories, cancer studies have been documented in only a few investigations. We have conducted several prospective cohort studies in Japanese chromium platers and r...

Chromium VI and stomach cancer: a meta-analysis of the current epidemiological evidence.

OBJECTIVES Chromium VI (hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI)) is an established cause of lung cancer, but its association with gastrointestinal cancer is less clear. The goal of this study was to examine whether the current human epidemiological research on occupationally inhaled Cr(VI) supports the hypothesis that Cr(VI) is associated with human stomach cancer. METHODS Following a thorough literature...

Elevated Frequencies of Micronuclei and other Nuclear Abnormalities of Chrome Plating Workers Occupationally Exposed to Hexavalent Chromium

BACKGROUND Biomonitoring provides a useful tool to estimate the genetic risk from exposure to genotoxic agents. The aim of this study was to assess the potential cytogenetic damage associated with occupational exposure to hexavalent chromium by using micronuclei (MN) as a biomarker. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study and all participants were males. Both the exposed and control individu...

The Effect of Inhaled Chromium on Different Exhaled Breath Condensate Biomarkers among Chrome-Plating Workers

Chromium is corrosive, cytotoxic, and carcinogenic for humans and can induce acute and chronic lung tissue toxicity. The aim of this study was to investigate Cr levels in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) of workers exposed to Cr(VI) and to assess their relationship with biochemical changes in the airways by analyzing EBC biomarkers of oxidative stress, namely, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malond...

An epidemiological study of electroplaters occupationally exposed to Nickel and Chromium

The lock industry largely employs nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr) plating. Workers employed in the lock factories of Aligarh (India) are occupationally co-exposed to both Ni and Cr, and an epidemiological survey of such workers may provide valuable information on the health hazards induced by exposure to Ni and Cr. In the present study, the sample population was divided into 3 groups on the basis...
